Blogging is not the same as writing. A blog isn’t a journal. It’s not your diary, where you tell your audience what you did today.
A blog is a business.
To be a successful blogger, you need to change your mindset.
From now on, when you think of the word blog, think of a money-making business, an online income that you own and control.
Write it down, make a poster, hang it on the wall beside your desk, get a tattoo, do whatever it takes to ingrain this into your daily thought pattern.
My blog is my business. My business is my blog.
So if my blog is my business, what is blogging? Blogging is the act of you running your business.
How to Become a Successful Blogger (5-Part Series)
- A Blog is a Business (<<< you are here)
What do all successful businesses have?
Before they start. A business plan.
Yes, I know, most people hate the words, ‘business plan’.
But it’s crucial to your success and we can make a business plan quick and painless.
Businesses need to make money, and you need to know how you are going to make this money before you start.
Write down how you are going to monetize your blog. Even if you don’t implement the monetization right away, the plan must be in place before you start. This way, you’ll have a blueprint for which content you need to create first.
Are you going to sell courses? Downloadable patterns?
Affiliate marketing, Google Adsense, Sponsored posts?
Once people are on your website, how are you going to get them to buy your services, click your money links, download your courses, etc?
You need to have a plan, you need to create your blog’s sales funnel.
Remember the words ‘sales funnel’. Understanding and knowing how to implement excellent sales funnels is the holy grail of making money online.
For now, just brainstorm how you are going to get people to buy your services.
The most popular tools in the blogger’s arsenal are epic posts and email marketing campaigns.
How are you going to drive traffic to your website?
The 2nd holy grail of making money online, driving traffic to your sales funnel. (don’t worry there are only two holy grails)
Traffic and Sales Funnels
Are you going to focus on epic Guest posts, organic SEO, Paid Ads, Pinterest, Facebook, email campaigns.
What is your master plan to get people to your website?
Note: Being really good at one method is usually better than being average at all of the above.
The Easy Way to Write a Business Plan
Reverse engineer the competition.
Start at the finished product (a blog making money) and work your way backward. Pick somebody in the same or a very close niche, and study their website. Which affiliates are they endorsing (sending traffic to)?
Did they write their own course?
Try and find their sales funnels. Unusually not very hard, they most likely have links in the main, top menu.
Does your Business Plan Work?
Are you able to answer these three questions? Can you see a clear vision for your business?
If you answered yes, share your business plan with a mentor.
Get a mentor
All successful people have mentors, even if they don’t realize it.
Doctors don’t teach themselves to be doctors, at least not the doctors I want to be seeing. Doctors go to school, then they get on the job training from mentors. A mentor has made the mistakes already and can help minimize your errors.
A mentor tells you, do this, don’t do that. This makes money, that doesn’t. This method works 5 times better than that method.
Get a mentor, and review your business plan with them.
“But I don’t know any mentors”.
Hi, my name is Kelly, I will be your mentor.
Send me your Business Plan
Feel free to write up your business plan and email it to me. Make sure to have clearly answered all three questions.
Subject line: My Business Plan
I will gladly give you my humble opinion, and tell you the potential pitfalls that you might run into. If this is your very 1st blog, temper your expectations.
Your 1st blog will grow slowly and many times, its just a practice run.
Most successful bloggers I know failed on their first attempt and hit home runs on their 2nd attempt.
A blog is a business. It’s not just writing articles day in and day out.
Its much better to write one or two epic posts each month, and spend the rest of the month driving traffic to your sales funnels.
