Why Bluehost?
Starting your blog on a self-hosted platform like Bluehost is critical to your success as a blogger.
Please, please, please don’t second guess this vital step.
Your blog is a digital asset. You own it. No one can take it away from you.
No one can change the rules on you. You are the boss. It’s vital you understand the importance of this.
We’ve felt the pain of getting our Etsy shop closed down on us (twice).
It’s a horrible gut-wrenching feeling, not knowing if your online shop is going to get restored or if it’s gone forever.
You Must Avoid a Free Blogging Service:
- Blogging on free platforms like Blogger or Tumblr severely limits your ability to monetize your blog.
- You will never truly own your blog. Who wants to invest time and energy into something that you don’t own, not us.
If you confused by any terms, we’ve mentioned so far, like WordPress, blog, self-hosting, etc. please read our Blogging Basics article.
Blogging on WordPress is very, very easy. Don’t get discouraged, don’t start making excuses. Go outside your comfort zone and live life by your rules.
How to Start a WordPress Blog on Bluehost

Register Your Domain Name
You can click here to register your domain name and create your blog, then follow the easy steps below.
Picking a domain name is an important decision. There really is no wrong or right answer when selecting a domain.
I use to really stress out when it came to picking a domain name, not anymore. Especially when it comes to a blog, the content you provide is much more critical than the blog’s name. (in my humble opinion)
The name of your blog should reflect your personality. The most successful blogs are honest and transparent. You need to be you, not somebody else.
Just be you.
For our blog, as you can see, we just went with our names. We are very proud of our blog, so we wanted to put our names on it.
Before you register your domain name, you first need to select your hosting plan.
Select Basic
Its all you need for now. When the time comes, you can always upgrade.
After selecting the Basic plan, the next screen is the Choose your domain name screen. In the ‘new domain’ box, type your first choice and hit next.
If you are lucky, the domain you want will be available. If not, try again with something close.
Make sure to pick a .com domain
Once you have your domain picked, you will be asked to fill in your contact details. Directly following your contact details, you will choose your billing package.

Select 36 Months for the best value.
If you pick 36 months (which I recommend), you will pay the least, and you will receive the domain and SSL certificate for free. (things you need)
After picking your package, you will be presented with some package extras, I’d recommend skipping these. It’s entirely up to you, but I don’t purchase these options for my websites.

The next step is pretty self-explanatory, enter your credit card information, click the ‘I agree’ checkbox and hit the green submit button.
Congratulations, you are now the proud owner of a blog.
Next step: Pick a password
Make it long and write it down!
Next Step: Pick a Theme
Don’t worry too much which one you pick, I’m 99.9% sure you are going to change your theme a few times before settling on one. Changing your theme in WordPress is very easy.
Next Step: Your blog is ready to go
You will be delivered to the ‘backend’ of your website. The administrative part of your website that only you get to see.
This is where the magic happens!
Important Note
To return to the administrative part of your website, add /wp-admin to the end of your domain URL.
For example, to log into our website, we type: https://bibikelly.com/wp-admin
Replace ‘https://bibikelly.com with the name of your blog.
Write this Down
This is all new but remembering these basics, i.e., how to log into your website, will save you unnecessary stress.
